Inspiration
Trying to keep the journal of workouts and using unnecessarily sophisticated mobile apps are discouraging people from building proper workout habits. How often do we install a workout or nutrition mobile app and then not use it? We took an approach of bots in messengers like Telegram or WhatsApp and made it available to anyone using SMS. Our focus is highest order of simplicity and convenience.
What it does
User has to do a 20 second input on the website (eventual fitass.org). Then, each day, bot will message the user at particular time asking for 1 (yes, you've read it right) 1 symbol input, which will tell it what type of workout you did today. Our server then processes it, and gives you a beautiful, trackable and simple page with stats available at fitass.org/nickname.
How we built it
We used Firebase Cloud Functions to build backend functions, Firebase Firestore to store our data, and Firebase hosting to host the website. Zhangir was working on the backend and Ali was working on the frontend.
Challenges we ran into
This is Ali's first ever hackathon, besides, neither of us are software engineering nor computer science students. There is a lot of trial and error, but we love it!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The app is 80% ready for production!
What we learned
It's better to stick to strategies that worked before rather than trying new ones out on a hackathon.
What's next for fitass
We want to launch it to public. We're thinking of charging an approximate $2/user per month, which is nothing compared to gains that FitAss is going to bring. Besides, the name will help to make it viral.
