Inspiration

As gamers ourselves, we have experienced first-hand the many negative health consequences that come with playing video games, including physical damage, high heart beat, increased B.P., obesity, spine disorder, and more. In finding that many gamers, like us, play up to 3-5 hours/day, we thought, “How can we make fitness as fun as gaming?” We aim to translate our time spent gaming into time spent exercising.

However, we also saw an opportunity to extend fitness-centric video games beyond just “gamers.” This lockdown has rendered many of us cooped up at home, bored with the same at-home workout videos while seeking ways to still interact with friends and others. As a result, we wanted to create a fun and interactive video game that allows you to work out with users from across the world.

What it does

Our product makes fitness as fun as gaming. Our game is like Subway Surfers but with you as the main character. You run in real-life, it runs. You jump, it jumps. We make games come to life.

Unique features

Running capability. Most games today only detect hand motions or provide yoga experiences which provide less aerobic benefit.

Affordable. No expensive hardware required. Anyone with a computer and built-in camera can play. This was a big focus for us as fitness has become less accessible with expensive gym memberships, equipment, or gaming consoles.

Community. Players can meet and workout with others from all over the world, anytime and anywhere

Results driven. Complete dashboard of health metrics like BMI, calories burnt, diet recommendation and target-centric tasks to achieve your fitness goals.

Continuous use. Why will people play this game everyday? We have a “play for rewards” feature. Players can get free shoes, protein-powder/diet coupons, watches, headphones, fitness equipment and much more once certain fitness milestones are achieved (run for x consecutive days).

Challenges

We struggled to send the data from Python to Unity with UDP Socket. In addition, we had to think creatively about how to program a visual in a short amount of time that demonstrated the potential to scale to a global community (without recruiting so many new users in 2 days). Finally, as a US/India team, juggling time zones was a challenge but also a blast to work together!
