Inspiration

The idea popped into my head while we were brainstorming. I thought it was a pretty cool idea, and my teammates concurred.

What it does

Basically, it's a collection of tools. This includes a base64 encoder and decoder, a hex to RGB converter (for colors), and a tool to find the nth prime number.

How we built it

We used HTML, CSS, and JS and made it all in Visual Studio Code. Once it was finished, we uploaded the files to infinity free and hosted our website under the domain http://fishnchips.infinityfreeapp.com/

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was time. At first we were relaxed, but our coding was slow. Since we are still beginners, things started to go downhill pretty quickly. We finished our website around 5 minutes before the end, which was such a close call. We tried incorporating the Wolfram language, but after a bunch of trial and error, we had to make the hard choice of abandoning it. It proved challenging to integrate, so we decided to instead accomplish the same task using Javascript instead of Wolfram language. There was also a point where people were talking about using Flask and React JS, which we weren't using at all, which made us pretty scared.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of the few things that we're happy about is the front end of the website. We think we did a pretty ok job making things look smooth with nice animations.

What we learned

We learned that time management is a crazy important aspect in timed coding (which should have been obvious, I know). Our time management this time was horrible. A lot of time was spent arguing if we should add something or not.

What's next for Fish n Chips

Hopefully another hackathon to do better in!
