Inspiration
We drew inspiration for this game from the game jam theme "On the edge".
What it does
Our initial vision was of a platformer game, in which your sword would get a little blunt each time you hit something (so you would need to keep the edge of your sword as sharp as possible). What it actually does, is you have a character that you can move around with, and a few enemies (with very dodgy hitboxes) that you can kill. There are also platforms that do not have collisions. However, the dynamic background works fine.
How we built it
In our team of 3, one of us dealt with creating the map, another programmed the characters (movement, animations...), and the other made sprites.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we ran into was the deadline. Our initial idea was far too ambitious for people with no prior game development experience, and we are left with a barely even half-finished game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The player character works quite well, as well as the dynamic background.
What we learned
We learned how to implement animated sprites and a dynamic background in pygame. We also learnt how to implement moving sprites.
What's next for First year tron students try make a game
We most likely will not be continuing development on this game (at least not for a while).
