Inspiration
For a while now, I have been pondering about my future endeavors and the program I wish to pursue in my post-secondary study. At times, I have wanted to be a doctor, an accountant, and maybe even a teacher, but I have never maintained a concrete decision, primarily due to my ambivalent nature. Then one day, my friend told me to think about the one thing in life I could not live without, that one aspect I always had to have, and it was math. From problem solving to thinking to all the real life applications, it was subject I looked forward to learning and truly enjoyed. Thus, I decided to search for career pathways in that field, which is when I stumbled upon computer science. At first, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it, after all, you are just typing in front of a computer for majority of the time, or so I thought. Although, I surprised myself. I found coding fascinating, the concept of stringing together these words and letters, and creating something, it was liike taking an empty easel and making art. With the help of code academy, free code camp, w3schools, and the plethora of resources on the web, I began learning front end development languages such as, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JQuery. I ended up really enjoying it and what fascinated me the most, was how I was able to create something from scratch. One second, the page was empty, and the next, it was filled with boxes to hyperlinks to pictures. It was after all this learning, I decided to put my knowledge to the test and create a simple tribute page, as directed by free code camp. The camp required us to put a picture, hyperlinks, and timeline with bullet points.
Link is below
What it does
It is simply a tribute to page to one of my favorite authors, George Orwell.
How I built it
I built it using a website called code pen.
Challenges I ran into
At times, it was difficult to put items into divs, and make sure all the formatting was correct and it looked neat.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that I was able to create something from scratch, even if it is just a simple tribute page. I enjoyed doing it and I am proud of the outcome. I am aware it is not the most complex website and it is very simple with few features and text however, I learned a lot.
What I learned
I learned more about HTML and CSS.
What's next for First Website
For my next project, I want to make a website for my personal portfolio. I want to add tabs this time, more pictures, and a variety of formatting so I am more experienced with HTML and CSS. I also want to start learning Java more and possibly create am desktop app.
