Inspiration

The inspiration for "First Responder" stems from a stark realization: Atlanta 911 exceeds the national standard for emergency call answer times by over double, clocking in at an average of 31 seconds. The prevalent delay presents a life-threatening issue, considering the national benchmark mandates 90% of calls be answered within 15 seconds.

What it does

Immediate Data Transmission: Upon dialing 911, critical information such as address, name, and emergency nature is instantaneously sent to operators, ensuring that even if the call is disconnected, vital details are already in hand, mitigating risk.
AI-Powered Voice Assistant: While callers are on hold, our voice assistant actively engages, procuring additional details about the emergency, thereby bolstering call retention and facilitating a more informed response when operators connect.
Streamlined Operator Interaction: Once the operator receives the call, a summary of vital information gathered by the AI is provided to the operator, streamlining communication and expediting response times.

How we built it

Frontend Development: Using HTML, JS, and CSS, we created an interface to swiftly collect user information like address and emergency details.
Backend Development: Leveraging MongoDB and Flask, we established a seamless connection between the user application and the operator dashboard.
AI Implementation: Utilized the OpenAI API and Google TTS API to create a real-time voice assistant and employed OpenAI API for information summarization.

Challenges we ran into

Ensuring precision and relevance in AI prompts to ascertain accurate information extraction under any situation; and ensuring our new solution integrates smoothly with existing 911 systems, while also adhering to strict data privacy and security standards.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully validating the concept of automated data sharing with 911 services, demonstrating not only its feasibility, but also its potential in significantly enhancing emergency response protocols.

What we learned

AI has the transformative power to significantly enhance emergency response times and effectiveness by seamlessly intertwining with 911 services, ensuring crucial, life-saving information is communicated promptly and accurately, even amidst critical waiting periods.

What's next for First Responder

Currently, the AI only gathers and summarizes information. Our vision encompasses evolving its capabilities to also recommend potential decisions to operators, further hastening and enhancing the emergency decision-making process while preserving essential human oversight.
