Inspiration
Many high school students struggle with mental health issues in the modern world. Our app provides small yet useful bits of information in the form of inspirational quotes.
What it does
Every day of the month corresponds to a quote, which is displayed along with a small text blurb describing how the quote can help them succeed today. The quotes are centered around motivational themes to help the user.
How we built it
We used react expo online editor to create useable react native code. We did this because, if we were to hypothetically release the app, it would be cross platform and useable by anyone across multiple devices.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we ran in to was the quite trivial matter of making the background. Creating a background which is both cross-compatible while contributing to the light theme of the app was difficult, as many of our attempts fell short. We eventually settled on
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how much we were able to learn about react native development. We are rookies to this language and are bridging the gap between html/css/js and this more intuitive development environment. We were able to develop our skills a lot and learn from our mistakes.
What we learned
As previously mentioned, we learned a significant amount about react native. From creating touchable highlights to simple data structures for the quotes, it was a large learning experience for the team which helped us all contribute to our knowledge of app development.
What's next for Quote A Day
We hope to be able to improve the UI and make it more compact / intuitive to the user.
