Inspiration
I had a spark of inspiration to make a protective case for Lithium Ion Batteries to protect users from battery explosions or fires. I am currently working on a Hybrid E-bike and one of my concerns is how to deal with thermal runaway on a hardware level.
What it does
The case is supposed to detect the internal temperature of the case, display it to someone on a screen and then if the temperature is reaching thermal runaway or 150°C an alarm will sound.
How I built it
I built this using SOLIDWORKS, 3D Printer, Breadboard, ARDUINO UNO, DHT11 Temperature sensor, MAX4466 Microphone Amplifier.
Challenges I ran into
While creating this, there were some big problems I tried to power through. The 3D Printers did not have ABS filament and I only had 24 hours to create a working prototype. Then, I initially didn't have a team. Despite this, I worked with 2 other friends outside of my project who guided me with setting up the hardware components and learning how to 3D print. I also had to come up with a working design, choose materials, manufacture the case, code and set up the hardware.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I successfully created an end product that was feasible in real time & did not give up on a project.
What I learned
I learned how to 3D print, how LCDs work, how to use Orca Slicer,
What's next for Fireproof Lithium Ion Battery Case
Here's what's next for Fireproof Lithium Ion Battery Case! -Find new members/friends to work with -Optimize the design to accommodate for hardware components seamlessly -Create a mounting component to latch onto bike frames -Add support inserts to keep battery in place when travelling -Removable cover for battery replacement
