Inspiration
The rationale behind fire finder came to our team when we thought of helping our friends in BC such as our team member Brandon from Vancouver and you guys! We aimed to tackle the rising amount of wildfires in BC, specifically monitoring them and providing more information about them to the public so that people could be at ease as they can proactively check the status of wildfires in their area, also firefighters can use fire finders as a tool to see where the fire has spread to and utilize technology such as thermal and infrared cameras on our drones to detect humans that may be trapped or possible flammable objects in the vicinity that might not be picked up by the naked eye. Residents and emergency response personnel can check this info by simply going to our website to monitor the location of the fire along with the safe zones. With this Fire Finder is a great resource that will help authorities extinguish wildfires faster and efficiently while also protecting BC residents by letting them know whether it’s safe to evacuate or not.
What it does
Interpret the drone's perspective as it collects data. You can also see that one of the drone icons has a water droplet indicating that that's our more top-of-the-line drone, the DJI Agras T16 that is actively fighting a fire and is being physically piloted. on the right, you can see demos of what the drones would output. so we have videos, images, both thermal and infrared.
How we built it
We built the website by using a combination of Weebly's website builder and some HTML and CSS. Also using multiple online platforms and technology, and video editing skills
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges we faced during the hackathon was that our .xyz domain would not be registered. We worked around that by deciding to show our website in the web builder view while presenting.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of various features on our site such as the pop-up newsletter subscription prompt, and the animations overtop the fundraiser’s logo. But mostly we are proud of our teamwork and collaboration. We had to come up with this idea all in all makes for a great experience.
What we learned
We learned how to make domains from .xyz, and how to use the Weebly website designer. We also learned how if drones were modified to help firefighters, it could be a possible solution to wildfires around the world.
What's next for FireFinder
What's next for Fire finder is to partner with pre-existing companies in the drone industry. Such as a startup in Toronto called AirMatrix that works on making drone flights fully autonomous. This will allow fire finder to be completely automated and would reduce the man-hours needed to pilot the drones
