Inspiration
The concept for "Firefighters & Dragons" is inspired by Spyro and multiplayer games like Riddick and Dead by Daylight, titles I had the pleasure of working on professionally. We wanted to evoke that suspenseful, asymmetric dynamic, but with a comedic twist that keeps the action light and accessible. Our main goal was to merge intense, competitive play with laugh-out-loud moments, all within a format that lets players jump straight into the fun.
What it does
Players pick sides as powerful dragons unleashing chaos or heroic firefighters battling to control blazes and save the day. Each team brings unique skills and strategies. Fast-paced matches emphasize teamwork, quick decision-making, and instant action.
How we built it
The entire world was built using Horizon's editor and the GenAI tools already available to creators. Skyboxes, and assets were generated or customized in-platform. We took advantage of the editor’s multiplatform support to rapidly test, refine, and balance core gameplay for mobile, PC and VR users. Our process focused on prototyping and iterating gameplay first, letting us quickly polish mechanics like role transformations and environment destruction.
Challenges we ran into
The AI sometimes goes wild and I missed most of the feature that Unreal Engine has, from rendering to material creations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
3 Weeks and 2.5 people for a playable that shows potential is incredible.
What we learned
How the editor works and what type of games we can quickly test.
What's next for Firefighters & Dragons
We are thinking at player progression and adding social features. Procedural maps so that the objectives change every match Speedrun mode with leaderboards And a ton of quality of life improvements and bugs to fix!
