Inspiration
After having lived through many wildfires and evacuations over the years, we noticed that no matter how prepared people think they are, there is inevitably an element of chaos to the process. We created FireStop to act as a specialized alternative to general social media, compiling important information all in one place to simplify the process of checking on loved ones and finding shelter.
What it does
- Creates list of registered users
- Lets users browse, search for and check status of other users
- Allows shelters to register to be put on the map
- Provides shelter contact information
- Shows active fires on the map
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successful application of a database to hold submitted data
- Having specialized icons on the map to represent fires and shelters
- Map interaction with the database to dynamically show new shelters on the map
What we learned
- Express.js
- HTML
- API integration
- GitHub
