Fire Shield: Protecting Those Who Protect Us

Every time firefighters respond to an emergency, they face not only immediate dangers from flames and structural hazards but also long-term exposure to harmful environmental conditions. Fire Shield is an intelligent decision-support platform designed to reduce firefighter exposure to hazardous environments and mitigate operational risks in real time.

By combining geospatial intelligence, exposure history, personnel data, and incident information into a single operational view, Fire Shield helps command staff make safer deployment decisions and identify when firefighters should be moved out of danger zones before exposure becomes critical.

Built using geospatial analytics and simulation-based operational data, Fire Shield provides actionable insights that improve situational awareness and support smarter resource allocation during emergency response. Our goal is simple: give decision-makers the tools they need to better protect firefighters in the field.

What we're most proud of is that Fire Shield is already fully operational and demonstrates how technology can directly improve firefighter safety. Through this project, we learned that data-driven decision support can play a critical role in reducing risk and protecting first responders.

What's next? We plan to integrate live sensor feeds, real-time environmental monitoring, predictive risk modeling, and department-wide exposure tracking to create a comprehensive firefighter safety ecosystem that proactively identifies risks before they become threats.
