Inspiration

We were inspired by the annual forest fires that occur in the Pacific Northwest and how our area is constantly affected by the smoke. We wanted to create an informative game that was similar to "the floor is lava" because it matches our theme of preventing wildfires. We eventually chose to make flappy bird and to have the pipes represent fires.

What it does

Our game resembles the original flappy bird game, but when the player touches the pipe/fire and they lose, they are redirected to informative slides about the effects of wildfires and some preventative measures. This informs our community in a fun and captivating method. By being more informed about the detrimental effects and simple preventative measures, our community will be more willing to help prevent future fires.

How we built it

We used code.org (javascript) to code it.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge we ran into was figuring out how to continuously move pipes off the screen and randomly generate heights for new ones that would appear.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of becoming more familiar with javascript and being able to actually make an end product that users could interact with rather than just printing strings to the console.

What we learned

We learned to manage our time and split the work evenly because it's very easy to get off track when working in a group. We also learned more functions that were specific to JavaScript that we had never used before.

What's next for Fire Flappy Bird

We want to incorporate more information about wildfires as well as other natural disasters that are prevalent in our community. For example, earthquakes are common in our area and can have catastrophic effects on Seattle due to its relatively weak base. The more informed the community is about environmental dangers, the more they will enforce measures to prevent them.
