Inspiration

We have been attracted by the opportunity to join forces with many brilliant colleagues form all over the world and find distruptive solutions against the COVID-19 pandemic.

What it does

The system collects concise reports about volunteers' activities, their timing and location through a mobile app, easily, on the go. In addition, volunteers submit results of their PCR testing. All data are processed with an artificial neural network for identifying those behaviors which lead to greatest rate of new infections. These findings can be used by authorities which epidemic restrictions can be further lifted or renewed.

How we built it

We applied an interdisciplinary approach combining epidemiology, deep learning, marketing and social psychology.

Challenges we ran into

The greatest challenge was to find the most feasible method of processing reported information.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

During the hackathon, we were able to find like-minded colleagues and unite our projects.

What we learned

A crucially important lesson for mitigation of the current COVID-19 pandemic as well as possible future ones is that the virus has an exceptionally long incubation period and the majority of infectied people have no symptoms. That is why, in order to prevent uncontrolled spread of infection, efforts should be focused on people to report their behavioral patterns and not so much their symptoms.

What's next for Fire Dance

Our next task is a platform for recruitment and coordination of volunteers as well as for secure storage of their reports and PCR test results. We will also expand our network with institutional, academic and corporate partners.
