Inspiration
The inspiration for Fintera came from real problems I witnessed in my own family and community. Several of my family members work in banks, and they consistently struggled with finding proper mortgage calculators that could help them generate accurate simulations for their clients. They were stuck using basic tools like Karl mortgage calculator, then had to manually create PDF simulations back at the office using Excel before sending them to clients for clarity. This process was incredibly time-consuming, especially when dealing with different calculation methods like annuity, effective, and flat rates.
Additionally, another family member faced frustrations with existing spending tracker apps that lacked advanced filtering capabilities. Most apps in the store couldn't properly adjust spending views based on monthly salary cycles, making it difficult to track actual spending patterns effectively.
I also noticed a troubling trend across Southeast Asia where financial scams are rampant. Many fraudsters sell expensive classes that encourage students to gamble on investments or charge excessive fees for basic financial and crypto education. This created a need for legitimate, accessible financial education.
Finally, I observed community needs around invoice generation - small businesses and freelancers needed an easy way to create professional invoices with proper logos and signatures.
These combined pain points led to the birth of Fintera - a one-stop solution for all financial-related needs.

How we built it
Fintera was built using modern, efficient technologies:
- Frontend: Expo React Native for rapid cross-platform development
- Architecture: Clean, modular component structure for maintainability
- Design: User-centric interface focusing on simplicity and functionality
- Financial Logic: Implemented complex financial algorithms for accurate calculations across different methodologies
- Data Management: Data is secure at Supabase
- Platform Deployment: Deployed to both Google Play Store and Apple App Store
The development process prioritized speed to market while maintaining code quality and user experience. Expo's ecosystem allowed for rapid iteration and testing across platforms simultaneously.
Challenges we ran into
Complex Financial Algorithms: Implementing accurate mortgage calculations for different rate types (annuity, effective, flat) required extensive research and testing to ensure precision that bank professionals could rely on.
Cross-Platform Consistency: Ensuring the app behaved identically across iOS and Android while maintaining native performance and user experience standards. And also testing the flow is a bit confusing at the beginning for in app purchase.
User Experience Design: Balancing comprehensive functionality with intuitive design - making complex financial tools accessible to both professionals and everyday users.
Regulatory Considerations: Ensuring all financial calculations comply with banking standards and regulations across different Southeast Asian markets.
RevenueCat Integration Delays: Encountered administrative challenges with payment processing setup due to international address verification requirements during a location transition from Malaysia to Indonesia.
Data Security: Implementing robust security measures for sensitive financial data while maintaining app performance.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Rapid Development Cycle: Successfully went from concept to live app stores in record time using Expo React Native, demonstrating the power of modern development frameworks.
Real Impact: Created a tool that significantly reduces working time for bank agents and financial professionals, directly solving real-world productivity issues.
Dual Market Approach: Successfully launched on both major app stores (Google Play and Apple App Store), maximizing accessibility.
Community-Driven Solution: Built a product that addresses genuine community needs rather than chasing trends, resulting in authentic value creation.
Professional-Grade Accuracy: Developed financial calculators that meet professional banking standards while remaining accessible to general users.
Educational Component: Successfully integrated legitimate financial education to combat widespread misinformation and scams in the region.
