Inspiration
After going broke multiple times in my first semester in college, I was inspired to help other college students learn from my mistakes and knowledge gained in financial literacy. Learning to save money, having a budget, and having money left over is the best feeling in the world!
What it does
The website allows a user (a college student) to input their tuition, rent/utilities, scholarships/aid, loans, and income/allowance, which allows for our website to give a recommended budget, and allow the user to adjust their budget. They can adjust their budget by changing the recommended amount to save, spend, and invest.
How we built it
We built this using HTML/CSS for the design and user interface of the website, and javascript and python for the backend. Using visual studio code, flask, flask_cors, and jinja.
Challenges we ran into
To collaboratively work on this project, we decided to use visual studio live share, which ended up being a pain in the bootyhole. With constant problems, it slowed our progress tremendously. We used python for the majority of our backend, and implementing that was also a big pain in the bootyhole.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For our first ever hackathon, we are proud of our unusual mix of HTML and Python for web development. Managing to connect those two is uncommon and difficult.
What we learned
We learned different style choices within HTML/CSS and new modules in python.
What's next for FinTech Literacy
What's next?? We want to add advice for what users input to be more effective. I sure don't want my peers and future college students to go broke like I did!
