Inspiration
In many developing regions, financial systems are complex, fragmented, and difficult to understand—especially for small business owners, freelancers, and low-income individuals. Through real-life observations, we noticed that people often avoid taxes, miss government benefits, or make poor financial decisions simply because the information is too complicated or inaccessible. This inspired us to ask a simple question: What if financial clarity was just one question away?
What it does
FinSense AI is an AI-powered financial assistant that helps users understand taxes, government schemes, and financial decisions in simple language. Users can ask questions and receive clear explanations along with step-by-step guidance. It also includes a Financial Scenario Simulator that provides personalized insights based on income and profession.
How we built it
We built FinSense AI using a modern full-stack approach. The frontend is developed with Next.js and Tailwind CSS for a responsive and clean user interface. The backend is powered by Express.js, handling APIs and business logic. We integrated Groq’s LLM for fast and intelligent responses. Authentication is implemented using JWT, and a rule-based logic system is combined with AI to power the financial simulator.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was simplifying complex financial rules without losing accuracy. We also had to carefully manage time by focusing only on high-impact features. Integrating AI responses with structured financial logic while maintaining consistency and reliability was another key challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built a working AI-powered financial assistant that goes beyond a simple chatbot. The Financial Scenario Simulator adds real decision-making value, and the system delivers personalized, easy-to-understand guidance. We are especially proud of creating a clean, responsive interface and a functional end-to-end MVP within a short time.
What we learned
We learned how to design AI systems that provide meaningful, real-world value instead of generic responses. We also gained experience in combining rule-based systems with LLMs, building scalable full-stack applications, and focusing on user-centric design under tight deadlines.
What's next for FinSense AI
We plan to enhance FinSense AI by integrating real government and financial APIs, adding voice-based interaction for accessibility, and improving personalization with user profiles. Future versions will provide deeper financial insights, alerts, and expanded support for more civic and financial domains.
