Inspiration
Financial illiteracy has been a long-lasting issue for people across many demographics and groups. FinPulse aims to tackle financial illiteracy in the credit card sector. Using AI, FinPulse helps make data-driven recommendations to people looking to get their next credit card.
What it does
In a nutshell, FinPulse uses data collected from customers with GPT-4 to recommend credit cards that are well-fit to the customers' spending habits and preferences. FinPulse works by collecting transaction data from the customer's connected financial accounts, collecting card preference metrics such as priority reward categories, querying GPT-4 for recommendations, and displaying it to the customers.
How we built it
FinPulse is a web application that is built using React.js, Flask, SQLite3, and Capital One Nessie API.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge that the FinPulse team encountered while developing the product was connectivity bugs between the frontend and backend. The frontend received errors when trying to query the API on our backend. Another challenge is working under tight time constraints as projects had to be completed in around 24 hours.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The accomplishments that the FinPulse team is proud of are getting a mostly completed product, the ability to push through adversity, collectively coming together as a team to work through difficult times and learning to play off each other's strengths to solve complex problems.
What we learned
As it was the first hackathon for many of the members of the team, the team learned about the entire ideation to product launch process.
What's next for FinPulse
The FinPulse team is passionate about this product and hopes to bring FinPulse to maturity in the future.
