Inspiration

I was inspired by personal experiences and the realisation that majority of the people do not know their financials. What fueled me the most is the statistics that U.S. adults correctly answered only 48% of the 28 index questions in 2024, on average. This shows a need for action because the situation is much dire in developing countries.

What it does

Finity is a comprehensive financial empowerment platform that combines interactive education with real-world practicality. At its core is Budget Quest, a gamified monthly budgeting simulation where you learn to manage rent, debt, and day-to-day expenses. Finity’s AI-driven engine adapts to your decisions, offering personalized tips and feedback so you can grow your financial skills at your own pace. Beyond budgeting, Finity introduces investment simulations, including a Crypto Education Mini-Game, to highlight the risks and potential of new financial tools. A Savings Tracker keeps you on top of your goals, while the Advisor Portal seamlessly connects you with real-world financial experts when you’re ready to act on what you’ve learned. By merging education and practicality, Finity serves as a user-centric, end-to-end solution for anyone looking to gain confidence in managing their finances and eventually move toward real-world investment opportunities.

How we built it

The first port of call was research about financial literacy and finance-related concepts. I engaged with the Iowa State business department to build an in-depth understanding of financial literacy problems and solutions in place. I then went around campus, carrying out interviews with students to establish the challenge from the perspective of the users. This exercise helped me in building personas and empathy towards the users of the app. I then went into designing this prototype of Finity using a combination of Figma for wireframing the user interface, along with Draft XR, bezi, and ShapesXR to visualize and refine the extended reality interactions. I used blender to model 3D assets Each tool played a unique role in shaping the immersive experience:

Figma: Created user flows, wireframes, and UI elements. Draft XR and Bezi: Brainstormed, mocked up, and refined key XR components for interactivity. ShapesXR: Finalized and tested 3D layouts, ensuring an intuitive spatial design. Blender: 3D Assets

This version is an early prototype intended to showcase the potential of Finity’s approach. It lays the groundwork for merging interactive financial education with real-world practicality, demonstrating how future iterations can be expanded with more robust features and deeper AI integrations

Challenges we ran into

In building the Finity prototype, one of the notable challenges we faced was working within the constraints of various XR design tools. While ShapesXR provided an excellent environment for visualizing 3D layouts and spatial interactions, it lacked some of the advanced interaction features we hoped to implement, such as more complex drag-and-drop gestures or custom animation triggers. Additionally, we encountered limitations when importing certain file formats into ShapesXR, which sometimes meant re-creating assets from scratch or finding workarounds to maintain design consistency across platforms. Despite these hurdles, using a combination of Figma, Draft XR, bezi, and ShapesXR still allowed us to rapidly iterate on the Finity prototype’s user flows and core XR features. Being solo was also a drawback because a lot of ground could have been covered

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The knowledge built in researching and engaging with various financial experts is invaluable. Finity allowed me to fully grasp the potential of extended reality and how it can advance communities with engaging experiences in a world full of distractions.

What we learned

The knowledge built in researching and engaging with various financial experts is invaluable. Finity allowed me to fully grasp the potential of extended reality and how it can advance communities with engaging experiences in a world full of distractions. I learnt that I need to work with teams more, individual team will not take you far.

What's next for Finity

Iteration, addressing mistakes and go into development for an MVP by end of February. The scope of this platform is huge and I would like to built a team of individual interested in empowering others in finance.
