FinishAI – From an Idea to an AI Execution Coach

I'm a software engineering student from Pakistan, and like many students, I use ChatGPT almost every day.

Whether I was learning programming, building projects, or exploring new ideas, ChatGPT became my go-to learning partner. It could explain concepts, answer questions, and help me solve problems much faster than searching through multiple websites.

But over time, I noticed something about myself.

I wasn't struggling to find information—I was struggling to turn that information into consistent action.

I would start learning Python, then switch to AI, then web development. I had ideas for projects, but many stayed unfinished because I didn't have a clear roadmap, daily plan, or someone to keep me moving forward.

When OpenAI Build Week was announced, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to build something I personally needed.

Instead of creating another chatbot, I wanted to build an AI execution coach—something that doesn't just answer questions, but helps people actually finish what they start.

That's how FinishAI was born.

FinishAI allows users to describe a goal in natural language, whether it's learning programming, preparing for an exam, building a startup, or launching a project. It understands the goal, creates a personalized roadmap, breaks it into milestones and daily tasks, and even adapts the plan if the user falls behind.

My vision doesn't stop at this hackathon.

I want to continue improving FinishAI into a real-world SaaS platform that helps students, developers, freelancers, and lifelong learners stay organized, stay motivated, and complete meaningful projects.

This hackathon version is only the first step, but I hope it demonstrates the direction I want to take—building AI products that don't just provide answers, but help people make real progress.

Built with OpenAI

FinishAI was developed during OpenAI Build Week with Codex as the primary development assistant.

As a software engineering student, I wanted to build something that solved a real problem I personally face: turning goals into consistent execution. Throughout development, I used Codex with GPT-5.6 to brainstorm ideas, design the application architecture, refine the AI planning experience, generate and improve code, debug issues, and iterate on features much faster.

For the live application, the AI chat currently runs on Groq's LLaMA models to keep operating costs low and make the project more practical for deployment. This allows FinishAI to remain affordable while still delivering an AI-powered execution coach experience.

OpenAI tools accelerated the development process, while Groq powers the current runtime inference for the demo.
