Inspiration

We were inspired by the idea that fashion is more than clothing. It’s a language through which we express our identities, explore who we are, and find our place in the world. The way we dress shapes how we see ourselves and connect with others, yet personal styling remains inaccessible to many, with services costing hundreds of dollars an hour.

We asked ourselves: what if everyone had the freedom to explore their style and express who they are without cost being a barrier? That question inspired Vibe Closet. We wanted to make personal styling accessible to everyone, turning fashion into a space for creativity, confidence, and self-discovery.

Shopping is closely tied to fashion, and Vibe Closet was an opportunity for us to reimagine how people shop. Instead of accumulating clothes that lose their appeal or never quite fit our style, what if every purchase felt intentional? Through personalized shopping recommendations, Vibe Closet helps people discover versatile, timeless pieces that complement their existing wardrobes and reflect their individuality. With Vibe Closet, shopping is about finding what truly belongs.

What it does

Vibe Closet is a digital personal stylist that makes outfit creation and shopping easy. Take an initial style quiz, upload pieces in your closet, and Vibe Closet creates a personalized style profile specifically for you. Vibe Studio is your digital personal stylist. Enter your occasion, style, and budget, and visualize your new personalized outfits in three modes: Closet Hero, which creates an outfit with existing pieces, Missing Piece, which combines existing and purchasable articles, and Unexpected Vibe, which incorporates an experimental piece for when users want to spice up their style.

Vibe Closet also houses Mix With Friends, a digital shared closet that shows your friends what clothes you can borrow from each other. Increased outfits, expanded styles, and effective sharing.

With these features, Vibe Studio is designed to help you shop smarter. By making personalized shopping recommendations, Vibe Closet ensures that your clothing purchases will become timeless pieces that fit in your closet and align with your style. By compiling friend groups' sharable clothes, Vibe Closet enables you to borrow a friends' piece instead of buying something that you would only wear for one occasion.

How we built it

We built Vibe Closet using Cursor to develop and iterate quickly, with the Gemini API powering our AI-driven features. We integrated AI to power personalized styling recommendations, outfit generation, and clothing image analysis to help users build a digital closet tailored to their style.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was making shopping recommendations personal and actionable. We wanted recommendations to reflect each user’s unique style while linking directly to real products from retailers like Uniqlo, Gap, and PacSun. By incorporating actual product listings and images rather than generic AI-generated visuals, we aimed to bridge the gap between AI-powered inspiration and real-world shopping.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that our two-person team turned Vibe Closet from an idea into a working product. We brought together a digital closet, a style survey, outfit recommendations, and personalized shopping recommendations to help users explore their style from start to finish. One of our biggest accomplishments was getting Vibe Studio to recommend real products with accurate images and links, making it easy and actionable to upgrade your closet. We’re excited to have built something that makes discovering your personal style more accessible to everyone.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned how to manage API keys and present AI-generated product recommendations in a visually appealing way. We also learned how to reiterate using Cursor to speed up development.

What's next for Vibe Closet

In the short term, we want to make Vibe Closet’s AI stylist more knowledgeable about the current fashion climate so it can provide more relevant, informed recommendations. We also hope to introduce a feature that compares similar products, helping users evaluate their options and find the pieces that best fit their style and needs.

In the long term, we hope to partner with local and sustainable fashion brands to help users shop ethically. Ultimately, we want to empower users to make more intentional purchasing decisions, reducing fast fashion consumption while cultivating an authentic and distinct personal style.
