FinGrow

FinGrow was created to address a major gap in education, financial literacy. Many people, especially teens, aren’t taught how to budget, save, invest, or handle credit until it’s too late. We built FinGrow as an interactive, family-friendly web app that teaches financial concepts through real-life simulations, collaborative goal setting, and gamified learning. Users can create personalized budgets by category, plan shared financial goals with family members, and explore our Financial Game Hub, which features games like Budget Battle (dealing with real-world expenses), Investo (a simplified stock investment game), and Crypto Quest (an introduction to the risks and rewards of crypto). The app also includes a Life Simulator that presents real-world financial decision-making scenarios and tracks a user’s financial level and net worth based on their choices. We built the frontend using React and Tailwind CSS, with shadcn/ui components and Lucide icons for clean UI. Our biggest challenge was designing flexible components that work for both educational and entertainment purposes while reflecting actual financial consequences in a simplified way. We’re proud that FinGrow now includes multiple working modules, a responsive budget tracker, and a fully functional simulator, all designed to be used by both individuals and families. Through building this, we learned how to merge game design with educational value, and how to simplify complex ideas like investing and credit in a fun and meaningful way. Next, we plan to add authentication and data storage via Firebase, expand our simulator with more scenarios, release a mobile app version, and partner with schools, libraries, and local credit unions to bring FinGrow into classrooms and communities.
