Inspiration Small and medium-sized businesses in India are the backbone of the economy, but they often struggle with complex accounting and tax regulations. We saw a chance to help by building an accessible and intelligent financial tool.
What it does FinGenie is an AI-powered accounting assistant designed for Indian SMEs. It simplifies tasks like GST/TDS filing, manages ledgers, and even digitizes handwritten invoices. The key is its voice-first interface, which allows users to speak in one of eight different Indian languages to manage their finances.
How we built it We integrated powerful Large Language Models with voice recognition and OCR technology to create a seamless user experience. We trained the AI on a vast dataset of financial regulations and regional dialects to ensure accuracy and relevance.
Challenges we ran into Accurately interpreting spoken financial terms and diverse dialects was a major hurdle. We also had to simplify complex government compliance rules into a user-friendly format that our AI could handle and explain effectively.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We successfully built a working prototype that can understand and process financial commands in eight different languages. We’re also proud of our OCR model, which can accurately convert messy, handwritten invoices into clean digital records.
What we learned We learned that simplicity is paramount. Our users don't want a complex dashboard; they need a reliable, conversational assistant that helps them get the job done quickly and correctly. This insight shaped our focus on a voice-first approach.
What's next for FinGenie Our next step is to integrate cash flow forecasting and predictive risk analysis. We also plan to expand our language support and partner with more SME associations to get FinGenie into the hands of every small business owner in India
