fineMe was inspired by the everyday struggles students at George Mason University face when losing personal items, often with no easy way to report or retrieve them. We set out to build a simple, user-friendly digital lost and found platform where students can post lost or found items with photos, location, and status updates. Using Wix for rapid frontend development and an external database for backend storage, we created a working prototype with plans to integrate AI-powered object recognition to suggest item categories automatically. Along the way, we faced challenges with external database connectivity, customizing features within a no-code environment, and integrating backend logic, but we’re proud of building a functional, visually clean site in a short amount of time. We learned a lot about connecting services, thinking through user experience, and using AI to solve real problems. Moving forward, we plan to enhance fineMe with smarter AI features, mobile responsiveness, and deeper integration with campus resources to help make lost items easier to find for everyone at Mason.
