Inspiration
As an outdoor enthusiast frustrated by disjointed planning tools, I wanted a one-stop hub for trail discovery, safety, and community—crafted for fellow adventurers across North America and Europe.
What it does
A web platform for discovering trails (filtered by activity/difficulty/location), planning trips (gear checklists, weather, safety tips), and connecting with outdoor communities.
How we built it
Built with core web technologies (HTML/CSS/JS) – focused on responsive design (desktop/tablet/mobile) and client-side logic for filtering, local storage, and dynamic UI (modals/tabs).
Challenges we ran into
Balancing responsive grid layouts for trail cards; ensuring intuitive filter logic (AND-based); validating form inputs for trip/ group creation without backend support.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Seamless responsive design across devices; intuitive filter functionality; functional local storage for route saving; realistic, user-centric demo content.
What we learned
Mastery of client-side state management; responsive design best practices; prioritizing MVP features while keeping user needs at the core.
What's next for this project
Add user authentication, integrate real weather APIs, connect to trail data backends, enable photo sharing, and expand to more European regions with localized content.
