Inspiration: Talking to early-stage founders, I discovered a critical pain point: the fundraising process is often a huge drain on productivity, with founders spending excessive time on lead generation only to face rejections from mismatched investors. This realization led me to develop FindVC.ai, aimed at simplifying and streamlining the investor-finding process, so founders can stay focused on growing their business.
What it does: FindVC.ai uses AI to effortlessly match startups with the right investors. It significantly reduces the time and effort spent in seeking and vetting potential funders by intelligently generating a tailored list of investor matches that align with a startup's specific stage and sector.
How we built it: The build process involved scraping data from primary company sources and then creating data embeddings. I used Django for the backend, incorporating Qdrant vector database for efficient data storage and querying. The front end was designed with Next.js and deployed via Netlify, prioritizing a smooth, user-friendly experience.
Challenges we ran into: One major challenge was finalizing the user interface and achieving a seamless integration of the frontend with the backend. Balancing functionality, usability, and design aesthetics was a meticulous and iterative process.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: I am especially proud of two things: building a product that genuinely addresses a significant challenge faced by early-stage founders, and successfully completing and presenting this project at Cal Hacks within a limited timeframe.
What we learned: I learned that time-boxing tasks, while challenging, is incredibly effective. It not only helped me stay on track but also ensured I stayed ahead of deadlines, proving essential in managing and completing the project efficiently.
What's next for FindVC.ai: My next steps include implementing new features like displaying portfolio company information on hover for deeper insights into investors. I plan to expand the database to cover a wider range of companies and investors. Preparing for a launch on Product Hunt is also underway, which I anticipate will significantly boost the platform's visibility and user engagement.
