Inspiration
The idea for Findr emerged from conversations with local business owners who are struggling to attract customers amidst the growing presence of international brands. Many of these businesses are vital to the community, yet they face challenges in sustaining themselves and covering their operational costs. This realization sparked a desire to create a platform that connects users with these local businesses, helping them thrive in a competitive marketplace.
What it does
Findr serves as a dynamic platform that connects users with local businesses through an engaging, swipe-based interface. The app allows users to discover and interact with local businesses tailored to their interests, enhancing the shopping experience while supporting the local economy.
Key features of Findr include:
-Personalized Discovery: Users can select categories they are interested in, such as restaurants, boutiques, or services, and swipe left or right to express their preferences. This personalized approach helps users find businesses that align with their tastes.
-My Favorites Page: Users have access to a dedicated "My Favorites" page where they can save their preferred businesses for quick access later. This feature encourages repeat visits and fosters a sense of loyalty among users.
-Detailed Business Profiles: Each business listed on the app has a comprehensive profile like a brief overview of the shop, highlighting its unique offerings and atmosphere.
How I built it
The app was developed using Figma.
The design process involved:
-User Research: Engaging with potential users and local business owners to understand their needs and preferences.
-Prototyping: Creating wireframes and interactive prototypes to visualize the user journey and app functionalities.
-Iteration: Gathering feedback from local business owners and making necessary adjustments to improve usability and aesthetic appeal.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges that I faced include Competing with established platforms that already connect users with businesses, necessitating a unique value proposition, and encouraging both users and local businesses to adopt the app, which required effective marketing strategies and outreach efforts.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Accomplishments that I am proud of is implementing a personalized experience that resonates with users, allowing them to tailor their preferences for discovering local businesses as well as creating a prototype that received positive feedback from both users and local business owners during testing phases.
What we learned
Continuous engagement with users is crucial for refining features and ensuring that the app meets their needs and local businesses thrive on community support; our platform can foster stronger connections between consumers and their local economy.
What's next for Findr
Implementing analytics tools to track user behavior within the app, allowing us to refine offerings based on actual usage patterns and exploring additional features such as loyalty programs, user reviews, and event promotions to enhance user engagement further.
