Inspiration

We were inspired to make this project from our own experiences through the university application process, especially with the many stress-inducing parts that exist within it.

What it does

We created this service to help make the applications process less stressful overall and allow students to tailor their applications to the programs they want to apply for. The service has both a reviews page and a predictions page. The reviews page allows one to enter their scores, extracurriculars and other miscellaneous details to a database of other reviews which will eventually be used to tune the predictions algorithm and be shown to students applying a well. The predictions page takes in the students' achievements and scores and predicts their likelihood of getting into their program of choice, by comparing it directly against the requirements listed by the school.

How we built it

We built it with a python and flask backend, with a simple HTML and CSS frontend. We built our predictions algorithm with python and we are hoping to expand the algorithm with the python sk-learn library

Challenges we ran into

We got a domain from domain.com (findmyprogramwith.tech) for our site and we wanted to connect it to the heroku app with which we hosted the website but the process didn't go as planned

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting a functional, interactive website up and running in less than 36 hrs

What we learned

We learned a lot related to backend web dev, python and how to time-manage effectively

What's next for FindMyProgram

We want to add ML Classifiers to better the predictions algorithm
