Inspiration
When we think of treasure hunts, our minds go straight to pirates—sailing the seas, searching for hidden chests of gold, and following mysterious maps. But in today’s world, the “treasures” drifting across the oceans aren’t gold coins—they’re shipping containers! We thought it would be fun (and a little ironic) to reimagine the classic pirate treasure hunt for the modern era, where the loot is lost cargo and the adventure is powered by technology.
What it does
Our project is more than just a game—it’s an interactive simulation where users can track and recover lost shipping containers. While it feels like a digital treasure hunt, it’s designed for both fun and function. Professionals from shipping companies, logistics firms, and even environmental groups can use the platform to visualize container drift, simulate recovery missions, and experiment with detection tools.
How we built it
We combined Next.js, and React Three Fiber to create an interactive platform We utilized tools such as effective teamwork, efficiency in generating prompts, and understanding of constant debugging.
Challenges we ran into
Blending the excitement of a treasure hunt with the needs of real-world users was a challenge. We had to make sure the simulation was both fun and informative, and that the tools we built could be valuable for professionals as well as hobbyists. Ensuring smooth 3D performance and reliable data handling was key.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud that our project appeals to a wide audience. It’s engaging and adventurous, but also practical and informative. The platform can help companies visualize and plan for real container recovery scenarios, while still capturing the thrill of a treasure hunt.
What we learned
We picked up new skills in 3D graphics, file handling, and UI design, and discovered how much fun it can be to reimagine old adventures with new tools.
What's next for Finding NEMO
We’d like to add more features for industry users, such as real-time data integration, advanced detection tools, and collaborative mission planning.
