Find Your Swarm

Inspiration

Being students at a school with very diverse backgrounds, it is important to learn about different religions and cultures that other students represent. However, it is not always easy to find a way to meet them. We decided to make a solution with an app that would match students to others so that they can engage in education while having a blast and forming new friendships.

What it does

Our app, Find Your Swarm, allows students to create profiles about themselves where they can describe who they are and where they came from. Users can search through a swarm of Yellow Jackets to find matches that they can create relationships with. By meeting them, they can exchange meaningful conversations about each other's cultural and religious backgrounds. There is also an "Explore" tab where religious and cultural organizations from our campus can post upcoming events so that users can find new ways to be involved. Users can also create a schedule on the "Plans" tab so that they can create and keep track of their meetings.

How we built it

We used Figma to create a powerful interface design for our mobile application. In order to ensure strong user experience, we modeled interactions to create a natural and intuitive flow for users. In order to create a sense of control, familiarity and reliability for users, we made sure that elements in our user interface are consistent and uniform. Also, we used CSS to build cruical components in our design, which strengthened our prototype. We learned and used various tools that Figma offered, such as frames, inspect, CSS and plug-in's.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into organizational and structural challenges, such as creating a consistent look across all pages of the app. We followed an iterative, agile development process to combat these challenges to improve our product. Also, learning a new software such as Figma took some time, but we were able to pick it up quickly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of our intuitive design and flow of our app. We made sure that our app would be easy to use and navigate for users to ensure best and enjoyable experience. We also researched and found a creative way to incorporate current on-campus student organizations and their events. We believe that our app is nothing like any other apps that currently exist, and the combination of Bumble's concept with education creates something extraordinary! We believe this kind of details and originality personalize the app experience for Tech students.

What we learned

We learned how to utilize Figma softwares and tools, such as plug-in's, wireframes, components, customizations and interactions. We also learned a lot about working as a team, as Figma promotes collaboration and teamwork. Additionally, we got to learn more about on-campus cultral and religious organizations as well, which was really fun!

What's next for Find Your Swarm

Now that we have a strong and well-performing prototype, we believe we are ready to take on our next steps to build the core architecture. We plan to use React with libraries such as Material-UI for accurate representation.
