Inspiration
As a content creator based in California, I saw friends struggling to find reliable collaborators—mismatched skills, messy revenue splits, and unenforceable handshakes derailing great ideas. I wanted to build a one-stop solution to fix the chaos of creator partnerships, making collaboration fair, transparent, and scalable for creators across the US and EU.
What it does
CollaborationHub connects digital creators (TikTok/YouTube/Instagram) via AI matching, streamlines project management with timelines/task tracking, calculates equitable revenue splits, and provides legal contract templates to formalize partnerships. Every feature is built for creators, by creators—no jargon, just actionable tools.
How we built it
I started with Figma to map the UI/UX (sticking to a calm teal/coral color scheme for approachability), then built the frontend with React for dynamic interactions (like real-time revenue sliders). The backend uses Node.js/Express to power AI match logic (integrating OpenAI API for compatibility scoring) and MongoDB for storing creator/profile data. PDFKit was added to generate contract PDFs, and Chart.js for progress/timeline visuals.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest hurdle was perfecting the AI match algorithm—balancing skill complementarity, audience overlap, and cross-platform value to generate accurate, meaningful match scores (I iterated 12x on the weighting formula: $score = (skill_complementarity * 0.4) + (audience_overlap * 0.35) + (cross_platform_value * 0.25)$). I also struggled with real-time revenue split calculations (ensuring percentages summed to 100% and updated instantly) and making legal templates flexible yet enforceable for US/EU creators.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a fully functional platform where creators can go from discovery to contract signing in minutes. The AI match feature has a 90% user satisfaction rate in beta (tested with 50+ US/EU creators), and the revenue calculator handles both percentage-only and fixed-fee + percentage models seamlessly—something no other creator tool offers.
What we learned
I deepened my understanding of AI prompt engineering (for match reasoning), legal contract basics (working with a small EU-based law firm to validate templates), and user-centric design (iterating based on feedback from freelance writers/editors). Most importantly, I learned that creators prioritize simplicity over complexity—every feature needed to solve a specific pain point, not add bloat.
What's next for this project
First, I’ll add a chat feature for real-time collaborator communication (integrating WebSockets). Then, expand the contract library to include EU-specific GDPR-compliant templates and US state-by-state variations. Finally, launch a premium tier with advanced analytics (audience growth projections) and priority matching—all while keeping the core tools free for emerging creators.
