Inspiration
My inspiration comes from discovering SoundCloud in the 7th grade. Before that, I had only listened pop on the radio during car rides and music in popular media. By exploring the creations of small creators spanning countless genres, I was edified as to how diverse music could be.
What it does
Find Your Groove helps users explore different genres through small lists of popular songs within their genres. They can explore those lists on their own, or get a recommendation by taking a short and fun quiz.
How I built it
I used Visual Studio Code with the live server extension to build and visualize our website. I also used a coding tutorial by Programming with Mosh on YouTube as an introduction to using HTML and CSS to build my cite.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge I faced was a general lack of experience using HTML and CSS. I overcame that challenge using tutorials and applying the universal knowledge I gained by practicing other programming languages.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud of how quickly I worked and overcame obstacles. I came into this competition feeling unsure of my ability to compete, but now I feel more capable in my abilities as a programmer.
What I learned
I learned a lot about HTML and CSS. I also became more familiar with the culture of the tech industry and community, which is something that has often seemed foreign and overwhelming. I feel much more comfortable and welcomed after meeting those involved in this competition.
What's next for Find Your Groove
I would love to continue polishing it and expanding the list of genres that can be explored on the cite. I would also love to add quizzes to help people find new creators within each genre.
