According to a recent survey on November 2013 from Gallup.com (a reliable survey institution in the US), there are ONLY 59% US citizens who are satisfied with the cost that they paid for their own healthcare. The rest are unhappy with the cost they've paid. In addition to that, a survey from Kaiser Permanente, showed that in 2014, there are nearly 41 million of uninsured non-elderly adults, who actually can afford for insurance! In fact, Allegheny County is ranked as the 2nd highest in the number of uninsured people. Given that there's a lot of information on the internet, TV, and so on about insurance, why there are still people who are not satisfied with what the insurance plan they chose before? Why there are people who remain uninsured? The first problem that we agreed upon (and so did the three mentors we had in this competition) : THERE'S JUST TOO MUCH INFORMATION OUT THERE. People need a simple tool/portal that can help them to find the perfect health insurance for themselves. Is there any such thing that really fulfills this need? That's what we're coming for! Our target end-users are these people who are uninsured, also those who are insured but want to explore other possible options for them (because they may not be satisfied with their current plans). The web platform that we built will generate a / a list of health insurance plan(s) based on several criteria that a person chose during the initial web interfaces. Interesting features in our web are: 1) real-match, personalized healthcare insurance plan(s) for anyone, regardless whether you are a family, individual, or a small business, 2) there are ratings WITH REAL OPINIONS (pros and cons) from the current users of whichever insurance plan that is generated by the web --this way, people who are seeking for the insurance can get some REAL information about the performance of that plan itself. Besides these cool features, we have a solid business model for this website. There is A BIG MARKET SIZE for this with low competition in it. Our source of revenue is the health insurance companies. Each health insurance company will pay a certain amount of subscription fee in order to be included in our system. Surely, the fee that they pay should be less than the cost they pay for their regular marketing activities. We also plan to utilize the ratings and opinions data that we have, process those data and turn them into something like results of consumer survey. We can sell this survey results to the health insurance companies so that they can gain a valuable input/consumers’ feedback without being bothered to spend human resources and budget to conduct the same kind of survey by themselves. We are really excited about the usefulness, applicability, and the business opportunity of this website. The idea is original --although later on we found that there are two players currently in the market. But, we are confident that we can win the competition because of our website’s features. Future goals include actual development of the website, conducting more market research, and examining another potential tech platform, e.g. mobile app. By using our expertise, driven by our intention to solve a real-societal problem, and being able to actually get some funds, we believe that the future of this website will be awesome.
