DebtDeductor: Get Rid of Student Debt (LA Area)

Inspiration

Student debt is a $1.7trillion problem within the US. The flow of how financial system works to support borrowers is broken, and one way for it to be fixed is by providing information and the right resources to students. Utilizing the right resources can help students pay off their student debt without paying money out of their pocket.

What it does

As of today we are a resource hub for anyone within the city of Los Angeles & the state of California to find how they can utilize grants, IDRs, PSLFs, and other programs to pay off their student debt. Simply select your profession / or your future prospect, and we help you filter all the available programs.

Not just that we also break down high-end concepts and everything about loans to simple plain English. So students who want to learn more about loans, and professionals who want to get their loans paid off are both going to be using our service.

How we built it

The system right now flows on notion.so. It is a databank of all of what LA provides to get your student loans written off / paid off using government-provided solutions.

Challenges we ran into

We worked with a lot of organizations, and data sheets to identify the current resources. But a direct partnership with the city of Los Angeles will help us garner much more verified results to spread to the public.

What's next for Get Rid of Student Debt (LA Area)

Improve the system to provide unique and personalized experiences. If we can understand a student's unique situation and the student debt they are trapped in, we can filter and provide the best ways to pay them off using the abundance of resources. Not just that, we can provide support for the student to get their loans written off and they'd be willing to pay a one-time fee or a subscription for using our site to discover new resources. Ultimately becoming LegalZoom to help students learn & pay off their student debt completely.
