Inspiration

We wanted to create a tool that makes cooking easier and more fun — something that helps people quickly discover recipes based on what they have at home or what they crave. The idea was to reduce the time spent searching and increase the time spent enjoying delicious meals.

What it does

Find Flavour is a recipe finder app that lets users search for recipes by ingredients, dish names, or cuisine type. It pulls up a curated list of recipes, complete with ingredients, instructions, and visuals, making it easy for anyone — from beginners to seasoned cooks — to whip up something tasty.

How we built it

We built Find Flavour using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, integrating a recipe API to fetch live recipe data. The front-end was designed with a clean and responsive layout, ensuring a smooth experience across devices. We focused on making the interface intuitive so users can jump right in and find what they need.

Challenges we ran into

  • Connecting and handling the external API calls smoothly without breaking the UI.
  • Managing asynchronous data fetching and ensuring fast, responsive search results.
  • Designing a user-friendly layout that looks good across various screen sizes.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully integrating live recipe data and displaying it cleanly.
  • Building a responsive and visually appealing front-end.
  • Creating a project that’s not just functional but genuinely helpful for everyday users.

What we learned

We deepened our knowledge of working with APIs, handling asynchronous JavaScript, and creating responsive web designs. We also learned the importance of user experience and how small design details can significantly improve usability.

What's next for Find Flavour

We plan to: ✅ Add user accounts and save favorite recipes. ✅ Introduce filters like dietary preferences, prep time, and difficulty level. ✅ Include a “Surprise Me” feature for random recipe suggestions. ✅ Explore adding voice search or AI-based suggestions for even smarter recipe finding.
