Inspiration

Managing issues at an enterprise scale can be overwhelming. Duplicate tickets and related tasks often go unnoticed, causing inefficiencies, delays, and miscommunication across teams. As a founder, I’ve seen firsthand how these small issues snowball into larger problems, impacting delivery timelines and customer satisfaction. Inspired by the need for smarter issue management, I created "Find Duplicates" to help teams proactively identify and address similar or related issues within Jira. The goal is simple: empower enterprises to work smarter, not harder.

What it does

"Find Duplicates" leverages the power of the Atlassian Forge framework to detect duplicates and related issues in Jira projects. It analyzes issue data in real-time, highlighting similarities based on customizable parameters like issue summaries, fix versions, and components. The app not only prevents redundant tickets but also connects related issues to ensure team efforts are aligned. By automating this process, teams can consolidate tasks, focus on high-priority work, and resolve issues faster.

How we built it

Built entirely on the Atlassian Forge framework, the app is cloud-native and secure, taking full advantage of Forge's serverless architecture. Using Forge's APIs and UI components, we designed an intuitive interface that seamlessly integrates with Jira workflows. Advanced algorithms were implemented for pattern recognition, ensuring accurate detection of duplicates and related issues. The app's lightweight nature ensures it doesn’t interfere with Jira’s performance while offering enterprise-grade reliability.

Challenges we ran into

One of the key challenges was creating an algorithm that strikes the perfect balance between accuracy and speed. Handling large datasets for enterprise customers without impacting performance was another hurdle. We also had to navigate the nuances of the Forge framework, ensuring the app adhered to Atlassian's best practices while delivering a seamless user experience.

What we learned

Enterprise customers value tools that are not only powerful but also intuitive and easy to adopt. I learned the Forge framework as well as its serverless approach to building, deploying and hosting the Forge apps on the Atlassian platform.

What's next for Find Duplicates

The next item for the app is the incorporation of advanced reporting features, enabling teams to analyze trends and make data-driven decisions.
