Inspiration
As two members in our team are part of a middle-class family with immigrant families, coming from a background with little knowledge of job opportunities and possibilities of a fitting life was hard. However, we still were able to persevere through help of others and the community. With the backgrounds we were raised with, we want to give back to community, especially for those who have had it worse than us.
What it does
Welcome to Find a Meal, a PERN-stack web application focused on connecting and identifying soup kitchens for homeless families across the country. Our web application goes beyond the few available alternatives by giving users the ability to post reviews of the soup kitchen’s level of equal opportunity, sense of welcome, and overall quality, as well as rate their service on a one-to-five scale.
How we built it
We used the PERN stack combined with other assorted npm packages.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into lots of challenges, with the two biggest being making requests to the database as well as extracting data from react forms.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our team accomplished a lot within a short amount of time, and our proudest achievements are that the web app is fully functional and the cool animations we implemented.
What we learned
We learned how to make animations, and correctly connect api controllers with front and back end.
What's next for Find a Meal
More hackathons and greater experience while working with others.
