Inspiration

Being in a city with one of the largest homeless population, I decided to create an app that would help them and help reduce homelessness. Instead of being helpless, they can now find jobs and earn money for themselves without any resume or official experience.

What it does

The app allows regular people and businesses to post jobs that they need done. These jobs are not huge jobs with year long salaries but rather small things that anybody would be able to do like blowing up balloons at the carnival. Or someone could need help moving some stuff and they want it cheap so they can post the job on the app. Someone can then browse the app for jobs and then can get in contact with the person who posted the job.

How I built it

I built it using Android Studio and storing all of the data in the cloud (Firebase -> Cloud Firestore). This means anyone can access it from any device.

Challenges I ran into

I had challenges creating a login since it was my first time making a login page for an app using Firebase. I had to read the documentation for Firebase and had to code accordingly.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud with the whole overview of the app but especially of creating an app that could be used by millions of people and could solve a real world problem.

What I learned

I learned a lot about Firebase Authentication and how to integrate it with Android apps. I also learned a lot of advanced fundamentals of Android apps like how to enable and disable a button based on whether a user is signed in or not.

What's next for Find a Job

Find a Job can be improved by adding filters so that people can find jobs near them or search for jobs that they were told about.
