Inspiration

We were inspired by the lack of accessible, engaging financial education tools for students and young adults. Most financial learning platforms are either too complex or too boring. We wanted to build something that felt like an adventure — where learning about money, risk, and future planning could be exciting, interactive, and AI-powered. That vision became FincyQ Time Travel Finance Simulator.

What it does

FincyQ is a gamified financial simulator that helps users explore their financial journey through different life paths and timelines. Users can:

  • Get AI-powered financial advice using Mistral AI
  • Track their expenses
  • Navigate life scenarios through "Your Story" and "Life Paths"
  • Survive unpredictable events in "Disaster Mode"
  • Set goals in "Dream Mode"
  • Earn badges and monitor progress with achievement tracking

It blends education, simulation, and storytelling to help users make smart financial choices.

How we built it

Frontend:

  • React 18 with TypeScript for a modern, robust UI
  • Vite for lightning-fast development and hot reloading
  • Tailwind CSS for responsive, beautiful design
  • Lucide React for sleek, consistent icons

Backend & Services:

  • Supabase for authentication, database, and real-time syncing
  • Hugging Face for AI integration using Mistral AI
  • ElevenLabs for voice narration using text-to-speech

Key Libraries:

  • @supabase/supabase-js – connects to Supabase services
  • lucide-react – for clean, vector-based icons
  • react-dom – standard rendering for React apps

Challenges we ran into

  • Integrating multiple APIs (Mistral AI, Supabase, ElevenLabs) while keeping the user experience smooth
  • Designing a UI that feels both educational and playful
  • Managing real-time data sync and cloud storage reliably
  • Balancing the complexity of finance topics with approachability and fun

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a complete end-to-end app with full AI integration and gamification
  • Designed engaging user flows like “Disaster Mode” and “Dream Mode”
  • Created a badge-based reward system to motivate financial learning
  • Seamlessly integrated real-time syncing and multi-device support

What we learned

  • Working with Supabase for real-time apps and authentication
  • How to use Mistral AI via Hugging Face for smart, contextual content
  • Best practices for fast development with Vite + React + TypeScript
  • How to build gamified experiences that keep users engaged in learning

What's next for FincyQ

  • Expanding the storylines in "Life Paths" with more scenarios
  • Introducing multiplayer or classroom mode for group learning
  • Adding narration support using ElevenLabs
  • Launching FincyQ as a tool for educators, schools, and NGOs
  • Including more advanced finance modules like investing, insurance, and crypto
