Inspiration
Financr is here to inform and solve issues relating to financial literacy in young people today. This editable homepage for university aged young people is designed to be an appealing and effective way to teach youth about financial literacy. With features like a quick fact of the day to teach them of important things to know like when tax season is or reminding them to save a little on each paycheck; a list of upcoming events relating to financials that could be helpful for them to attend as well as a handy to do list. Setting this page to be the users homepage on their browser combined with covid and online school, individuals are bound to see this information multiple times a day and hopefully learn lots from it.
How we built it
We used JavaScript, HTML and CSS to implement our project as a web page that someone can set to be their default web page when opening google chrome. We chose to do this because of the amount of exposure the opening website would have on any explorer. The average university student, especially in covid times would most likely use a search engine at least once a day. Furthermore, by using HTML, JavaScript and CSS the website would be very universal and work on any device. Our vision for this website is that we would have it so each person using it would be able to design it the way that they want and then be able to download their version of the website.
What we learned
When creating this project we learned a lot about comparing what you want to make with making a financially feasible and executable project. Through creating the project we learned about refreshing the page in real time to keep the time going as well as using GitHub pages establish it.
What's next for Financr
Some features that we have planned for the future would be to create an extension for the website that is able to attach to the browser. This extension popup on the users daily internet surfing to remind them of certain things, perhaps an item on their to do list is due soon or a helpful fact. This would increase the amount of exposure that the user would get to helpful financial facts, which in turn would hopefully add to benefits that they would gain from our product.
