Inspiration

We were inspired to make a financial literacy app after learning that just 4 out of 10 students feel that their financial literacy skills are "excellent" or "good". Knowing how to manage your finances is a crucial part of life, and we wanted to make sure everyone has the skills to do so.

What it does

Our website teaches users has three informative tabs that teachers users the basics of how to invest, spend, and save. Additionally, we have two interactive pages. One page evaluates a user's monthly budget (saving/earning/expenses) and on the other page, we have a quiz that "gamifies" learning about financial literacy!

How we built it

We mainly built the application on Replit, using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.

Challenges we ran into

We essentially began this hackathon as complete beginners to web design. On Friday, we attended the Web Development workshops to start building our skills, and even today, that learning experience continued. We overcame many roadblocks when working on our project, from the struggles of formatting images to trying to animate our headings to simply figuring out how to approach a task.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our newfound web development skills and having created a functional website!

What we learned

We learned so so much about how to code in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and more. We applied our new skills in so many ways, from learning how to code the website to take in user input, to creating an algorithm to evaluate a user's budget, to formatting images and more! Additionally, by doing extensive research about financial literacy, we found our own understanding about everything from the stock market to student loans to budgeting techniques growing!

What's next for financialLIT

In the future, we hope to create financialLIT in app format!
