Financial Frenzy was inspired by the need to improve financial literacy among first-generation, low-income (FGLI) teens and young adults. We wanted to create a fun and engaging way for this audience to learn essential financial concepts, such as budgeting, credit management, and investing, through an interactive trivia game.
What it does Financial Frenzy is a trivia game that challenges players with questions related to various financial topics. The game is designed to make learning about finance engaging and accessible. Players answer questions, progress through levels, and receive feedback on their answers to reinforce learning.
How we built it We built Financial Frenzy using Java and the Processing library for the game's graphics and user interface. The game logic is structured around multiple screens, each representing different levels or stages of the game. We used object-oriented principles to manage the game's state and handle user input.
Challenges we ran into One of the challenges we faced was designing questions that are both educational and engaging for our target audience. We also encountered technical difficulties in ensuring smooth transitions between game screens and managing user input effectively. Another challenge was optimizing the game for different screen sizes and ensuring compatibility across various devices.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We're proud of creating a game that addresses an important need in financial education. We've successfully integrated educational content into an entertaining format, making complex financial concepts more approachable for young learners. Additionally, we're proud of overcoming technical challenges to deliver a polished and functional game.
What we learned Through this project, we learned a lot about game development, particularly in Java and Processing. We also gained insights into the design of educational content, ensuring it is both informative and engaging. This project also taught us valuable lessons in teamwork and problem-solving under tight deadlines.
What's next for Financial Frenzy In the future, we plan to expand Financial Frenzy by adding more levels and questions, covering a broader range of financial topics. We also aim to incorporate user feedback to improve the game's educational value and user experience. Additionally, we're considering developing a mobile version of the game to reach a wider audience and make financial literacy education more accessible.
