Inspiration
Not only are key financials like 10-Ks and 10-Qs hard to read, but there is no centralized source for all key ratio data of a company. So, we wanted to make a program that was one convenient source for all key financials.
What It Does
The financial scraper pulls together information from financial websites to find key ratios regarding certain stocks.
Challenges
- Some websites did not allow/make it easy to scrape information.
- Yahoo Finance did not cooperate and prevented us from scraping their webpage.
- We wanted to create a website called "keyratios.com" that would make it easier for people to search companies. However, we were not able to get it functioning in time.
Accomplishments
We were able to retrieve all the financial information we wanted to successfully.
What We Learned
- Scraping was harder than we anticipated.
- We learned how to better integrate Flask and HTML.
What's Next?
The next step for the Financial Scraper is to merge the program with keyratios.com so that it is easier to look up key information.
