Inspiration
Really just people who don't check up on their money often. We made this tool as a compromise, where they can just put in their transaction history and see whether they are staying well above the bar of spending money they don't have.
What it does
You select a pre formatted CSV file with your info in it. You choose a profile, and it will make a detailed graph of your debt, current money, and your actual value (money you can spend) along with it's moving average.
How we built it
From the ground up, with Python, Matplotlib, Pandas, and PySimpleGUI
Challenges we ran into
One hour before submissions, the person who stayed up and worked later into the night didn't commit and push changes. As I am writing this their mom is still confused as to what the heck we are saying... but in the end it was all good. We got it sorted out! The only other big challenge was the keyerrors that the CSV file would endlessly give us if we tweaked one part of the code we though was unrelated to it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting the whole thing working with a solid GUI and multiple people in such a time crunch. The GUI was really something we are actually proud of though. It adds an extra polish and the file browser is clean.
What we learned
We learned TONS about matplotlib, pandas, and gui stuff.
What's next for Financial Helper
We really don't know. Our next Idea would be something that makes the CSV more friendly to use.
