Financial Education Discord Bot

Inspiration

After talking with my friends one day I found out their financial literacy was quite poor. I continued to research and found many websites saying many teens have poor financial literacy. However, I realized many teen gamers like me use the popular social media app, Discord. This prompted me to make a discord bot that educates teens about financial literacy.

What it does

This is a bot tell people about investing in a car, crpto, stocks, certificate of deposit, bond, and can calculate an investment using the years until a certain user's retirement.

How I built it

I built it using python. I first wrote most of the bot in atom ide until I copy pasted the code over into replit so i could have a function where it would have the bot running on a web server.

Challenges we ran into

Before this, I barely had any experience with discord.py so I had to learn a lot of its functions. It was extremely tough because I wanted my text to be sent in an embed format but i didn't know what it was called which took me a long time to find out what it was. After that, I had to learn how to print out embed and how they worked which caused me to have more struggles. In addition, I had to learn how to set up discord.py and discord bots.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Im extremely proud of the progress I made on this bot considering I had to learn and write at the same time. Im very proud of what i learned along the way about discord.py and the effort i put into this bot.

What we learned

I learned about how to embeds in discord.py and how to use discord.py better. I also learned alot about how python worked in general and the vast api library of python.

What's next for Financial Education Discord Bot

Whats next is for me to add a bar graph displaying all the investment data and add stock and crypto data aswell.
