Inspiration

Our inspiration was our dream to become financially independent ourselves. We spoke with an accountant friend of ours and he told us about this concept in finance. We knew it sounded interesting so we made website with this concept in mind.

What it does

This calculator will use the values you provide in order to calculate your roadmap to a future where you can make passive income without worrying about the future. The investment section of the calculator assumes an average rate of return of 8% from the S&P 500 and takes into account the 4% rule to determine when you will have enough invested to live off of those investments.

How we built it

We used html, css, and a modular Javascript design to construct the core of the website. We also have node.js libraries for additional functionality.

Challenges we ran into

Getting familiar with JavaScript was a hard task since our webpage relied on it so it was important to get it right. Source control was another issue as we had to carefully make branches and merge them when we needed a feature from another teammate, because at first we kept working in the same file and accidentally overriding someone else's changes.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Since its our first time making a big project like this, we are proud to just have finished something and submitted it.

What we learned

We learned a lot individually as wee took differing roles in the website stack production. However as a team we all learned how to quickly formulate an idea and run with it. We also learned how to deal with problems as they came up and to solve them quickly.

What's next for Financial Calculator

We made this project in order to learn new skills and fill out our resume, so we will fine tune the website and use it for the future.
