Inspiration

We came into this not knowing what to do for this hackathon, but then it dawned on us, wouldn't it be nice if it were possible to see different type of information about the stock market, and stocks that you already own. That's when we thought of making Ultimate Portfolio!

What it does

Now you may be wondering, what does Ultimate Portfolio do? Well, Ultimate Portfolio is an app that allows you to see how different stocks are doing in comparison to their norm using linear regression to make a technical analysis on the stocks. Is that all? You may ask. No, let me tell you some of our other great features. Ultimate Portfolio analyzes and shows how your investments are doing. Now you may find yourself wondering, why would that be of use? Well let me tell you, using Ultimate Portfolio the app will show you how well you are doing in your stocks and how well others are doing, so you will know when to invest or sell to make HUGE amounts of money and avoid the risk of losing it all. All of this and much more can be done with just a couple of clicks in our app Ultimate Portfolio!

How we built it

It all started with an idea, A Great Idea, but little did we know what we were getting ourselves into. Soon after, we started brainstorming and creating a plan of action on Trello. Everyone was assigned tasks to complete, whether with the help of another team member or by themselves. We had some members that were more acquainted with backend developing, so we let them handle the dirty work. We used react, firebase, an external API and bootstrap to complete this Great Idea. All in all, the plan was going according to plan, straying off in some parts, pulling ahead in others.

Challenges we ran into

One Big challenge was the fact that it was the first hackathon for most of our team, and with it being most of our first hackathon, we had no idea what this experience was like. So learning how to work well and efficiently as a team was a hurdle that we had to overcome. There were a lot of hard fought battles... (with errors) but in the end, we improvised, adapted, and overcame.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Many things were accomplished during this hackathon, some of the most notable accomplishments were working as a team to create a project. Again, since this was most of our team's first hackathon, it was very rewarding when things started coming together working as a team. Also, doing this hackathon was like stepping out of our comfort zone of not being stressed to finish a project in time, and stepping out of ones comfort zone once in a while can be very rewarding, it's like being in A Whole New World! Something that our team did exceptionally well, was product management, by the end of our brainstorming and plan of actions creation phase, we had already set up a Trello board (which helped with organization and distribution of tasks).

What we learned

In the end, many things were learned by our team. One very crucial part, and I cannot emphasize this enough... caffeine, you can't do everything yourself, and working as a team can be beneficial at times.

What's next for Ultimate Portfolio

In the future, we hope to implement more advanced analytic features and tools for members to use. These features will be used to help the user create better investments, allowing them to make more and lose less money. Some of these features include, but are not limited to, Neural Networking, which can examine data to let you know whether you should invest or not, predictive analytics and prescriptive analytics, which will predict stock prices, and then let you know the best approach to make money. All of these and many more are planned for the future of Ultimate Portfolio!
