Inspiration
I am inspired by the growing need for financial literacy, especially among young adults. Many struggle with budgeting, saving, or investing. I wanted to create an engaging platform that gamifies finance education, making learning about money interactive, accessible, and fun for users at all levels of understanding.
What it does
FinanceQuest is a gamified financial literacy platform where users complete quests that simulate real-life financial decisions. Players learn about budgeting, saving, investing, and credit management through interactive challenges, earning rewards and leveling up as they progress. It transforms traditional finance education into an immersive, story-driven learning experience.
How we built it
I used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend, and hosted the application on Replit. The game logic was crafted using JavaScript functions, with modular design for scalability. I used basic localStorage for saving progress, and animated UI elements to create a fun and dynamic user experience.
Challenges we ran into
I faced challenges with dynamic state management and saving user progress across sessions. Designing intuitive and responsive UI interactions was also tricky. Balancing educational content with gameplay without making it feel like a lecture required creative thinking.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of transforming a traditionally dry topic into an enjoyable game. Creating an end-to-end working demo, integrating storytelling with finance concepts, and designing a user-friendly interface were major wins. Seeing users engage and learn while playing affirmed that gamification can indeed drive meaningful learning outcomes.
What we learned
I've learned the importance of simplifying complex topics without losing depth. I deepened the frontend development skills and gained experience in designing gamified experiences. I also learned to prioritize user engagement and feedback during development, which significantly improved both usability and educational value of the application.
What's next for FinanceQuest
Next, I plan to add user accounts, a leaderboard, and more financial quests covering taxes, loans, and insurance. I aim to introduce adaptive learning paths and integrate expert-reviewed content. Collaborations with educators and fintech platforms could also help scale and bring FinanceQuest to classrooms and communities.
