Inspiration
Being an indie developer myself, it's sometimes hard for me to keep up with all the expenses I have like ASO services, memberships and marketing costs. So I was looking for an app made for companies/indie developers, but I couldn't find a good one, so I decided to build FiguresKit.
What it does
FiguresKit makes it easy to add and manage transactions (which is not the case with many other financial trackers out there). You can also see how you're doing over time, stay up to date with widgets, and set financial goals to see how far you've come.
How I built it
The app was built in Xcode using SwiftUI. Unfortunately, I went on vacation right when the ShipATon was announced, so all I could do was make some sketches on paper of what I wanted FiguresKit to be. When I got back, I decided on a simple design language and quickly implemented most of the basic features. For a few days the app was made available on TestFlight to get some feedback and to check how much money it costs me to power categories and receipt scanning with ClaudeAI.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge I ran into happened on September 17th. The app had already been rejected once for a minor issue and now Apple Review decided that I could not use my initial name for the app "FinanceKit" because they have something with the same name. So I had to come up with a new name very quickly and chose FiguresKit because I could keep my icon designs (maybe I will change the name again).
Achievements I'm proud of
Of course there are some for my other two apps, but nothing major for this app so far, other than being able to launch this app on time even though I was on vacation, then got sick and only had about a week while I was already back in school.
What I learned
Check if Apple has a product with the same name early enough, lol. I also realized that Swift Data is pretty unreliable, so I will use something else next time :)
What's next for FiguresKit - Finance Manager?
Since the launch was quite chaotic and not really big yet, I will mainly focus on adding a few more important features like notifications, an iPad app, more charts, widgets and maybe an AppStoreConnect integration to increase the value of the app. Then I will relaunch it and start marketing it to get a bigger user base.
