Imagine leveling up your finance skills while competing with friends, earning badges, and chasing streaks—like Duolingo, but for money smarts. Our app turns boring concepts into bite-sized challenges. You’ll dissect real company financials (thanks to live SEC data!), tackle quizzes that feel like trivia night, and climb leaderboards to flex your newfound knowledge. No textbooks, no jargon—just fun.
What it does
Learn financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow) Complete interactive challenges & quizzes Earn points, badges, and level up Compete with friends on leaderboards Track streaks & achievements for motivation Analyze real-world companies using SEC financial data
How we built it
Frontend: Next.js + Tailwind CSS Backend: Firebase handled logins and data. Real-World Data: SEC’s API so you can analyze companies like Apple or Tesla.
Challenges we ran into
The beginning was a creative focus challenge. We had trouble reconciling our creative discrepancies and finding the real vision for our project. We had to narrow down a lot of great ideas because we were short on time. We had to compartmentalize.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Properly gamifying the app with really engaging features. Also adding real-world analytic functions for various financial concepts.
What we learned
How to keep our heads calm under pressure. We exercised the business process management model where we had to reconcile our creative differences while engaging in divergent and convergent thinking. Luckily, everyone had a good grasp of the vision of the project which led to an overall fun process. (Except when our API keys started malfunctioning when we maxed out our usage and we started crashing out and almost lost our heads.
What's next for Finance With Friends
Once we get investors, this app will work on greater functionality for the social features so that we are really able to engage our user base. We will also do a partnership with Khan Academy to get more educational resources in our app because we are such great people.
